PM PAYS LAST RESPECTS TO YTL FOUNDER

Yeoh has left a lasting legacy, writes Najib in condolence book

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday paid tribute to the late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay, describing the YTL Corporatio­n Bhd founder as an iconic entreprene­ur.

Najib, who visited the Yeoh residence with his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, to pay their last respects, expressed his condolence­s to the family.

“Rosmah and I would like to express our deepest condolence­s to the family. The late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay was an iconic entreprene­ur.

“He has left a lasting legacy to his organisati­on, community and nation. May his soul rest in peace,” he wrote in the condolence book.

Najib and Rosmah arrived at 5.40pm and spent about 30 minutes at the residence.

Earlier yesterday, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullai­l paid his last respects to Yeoh. Present were community leaders and former ministers.

Relatives and acquaintan­ces began streaming into the family’s residence since morning.

Yeoh died on Wednesday at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife, Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong, and seven children.

The last wake will be held tonight. The funeral will be held tomorrow and the cortege will leave the residence at noon.

YTL Corporatio­n Bhd is among the 30 largest companies listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd.

It is also among the component companies of FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main benchmark index of the bourse.
