Gunman fires 7 shots at victims as they are having wee hour drinks
TWO men were injured when they were shot at a coffee shop in Bukit Gambir near Tangkak early yesterday. Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the 4am incident occurred when the shooter, wearing a full face helmet, fired seven shots at the two victims and their friends.
“Seven shots were fired at the group at close range. After the incident, the shooter escaped on his motorcycle.
“The victims, who are in their 30s, were sent to hospitals in Muar and Melaka for treatment. They are both in stable condition.
“The motive of the incident is being investigated,” said Khalil yesterday.
The case is investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 3(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm in the commission of a scheduled offence.
It is learnt that the injured victims were a car workshop operator, 32, and an unemployed man, 30, who were locals.
“The duo was among a group of five friends who were having drinks at the coffee shop at 3am.
“Initial investigations revealed that the man allegedly got off his motorcycle and fired at the victims.
“The victims’ friends then rushed the injured men to hospital,” said a police source.
The source added that police were also trying to obtain close circuit television footage of the incident from a nearby 24-hour convenience shop and medicine shop.
