HAWKERS CAUSING ROAD CONGESTION

-

THE growing number of hawkers in the Taman Wilayah Persekutuan Park area has irked residents in the neighbourhood.

A resident, who identified himself as Es Kay, said the number of hawkers opposite the park had been growing since early this year, causing traffic congestion in the area.

“The traffic in Jalan Abang Haji Openg would be so congested that it is causing inconvenience to residents .

“It is exasperating, especially when there is an emergency.

“It could take 20 minutes just to reach our destination,” he said.

He said the area was a favourite with joggers going to the park.

“Most of the joggers would park their vehicles by the roadside and this caused the road to become narrow,” he said.

He hopes City Hall would send its officers to monitor the situation, especially during the weekends.

ACTIONLINE:

A City Hall spokesman said the council would send its enforcement officers to monitor the area to determine whether the hawkers were operating legally.

“Hopefully, the traffic congestion would be resolved once we settle the issue with the traders,” he said.

He added that residents could lodge reports with City Hall by contacting its call centre at 1-800-88-3255.
