DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday expressed hope that the 2018 Budget announcement this Friday will include a reduction in the cost of hiring maids for civil servants.

Zahid, who is also home minister, said this was to ease the burden of government servants who hired foreign maids to take care of their families.

“To show that we are a caring government, the ministry will propose to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to ease the process (of hiring maids) and reduce the cost for public servants,” he said at the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly yesterday.

“We hope the new procedures and regulations will ease the burden of government servants especially those who have children at home and require maids to look after them.”

Zahid also hoped that the budget would focus on modern policing, especially acquiring more assets and improving the welfare of Home Ministry staff.

“We hope there will be an allocation to increase assets according to the current needs, because the enforcement agencies are dealing with greater challenges to tackle crimes now, especially online gambling and cyber crimes.

We also hope the 2018 Budget will touch on the welfare of officers and personnel under the ministry, especially in boosting the facilities of police quarters.

“We hope the 2018 Budget will address the lack of operating expenses,” he said.
