PAS is ready to accept defeat at the polls, so long as it remains on course with its Islamic approach to politics. In reiterating Pas’s independence, but yet open to those friendly to its political medium, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang disagreed with achieving victory for the sake of gaining an upper hand.

“Pas can continue to remain patient (in carrying out its political approach) and accept defeat wholeheartedly, (as we do not want) to win without substance. Pas’s vision is expansive.

“It will persevere with Islam (and Islamic political approach).

Hadi outlined three main aspects in Pas’s “path” on the heels of its Islamic politics — the prime minister candidate would be picked based on his commitment to Islam, upholding justice for all, regardless of race and religion, and employ-ing prosperous and mature politics to prevent slander and animosity.

“The Islamic political approach is a concept in Islamic leadership that must be defended to uphold justice.

“There are networks (possible to be made) with all parties.

“But peaceful politics must be prioritised,” Hadi said.

He reminded detractors that Pas would not be influenced by those attempting to derail it from its way of politics.

“Pas will not be dragged by those who want to coerce, deceive or provoke it into stepping away from its principles.

“Pas has experience on being on its own, in a coalition government and cooperating with other parties.”

“It is incumbent upon Pas to reject those who oppose Islam.

“It will cooperate with those who do not reject Islam.

“Pas is free to determine how many seats and constituencies it contests without being bogged down by instructions or tied down by other parties,” he said.
