Ensure projects benefit target groups, Pas urges govt

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas has urged the Federal Government to monitor the progress of projects to ensure target groups benefit from the 2018 Budget.

Pas vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad said he hoped the government would review project delivery procedures to ensure projects under this year’s budget were completed on schedule.

“Avoid political interference because meddling will make it impossible for projects to benefit the target groups,” he said at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

Idris, who is also Bukit Gantang member of parliament, said developers must complete outstanding projects, such as housing projects for second-generation Felda settlers.

He urged the government to pay more attention to hikes in petrol prices, which could increase the cost of living and the cost of basic necessities.

“This budget will bring cheer to low-income earners like farmers, fishermen, smallholders and rubber tappers as many incentives and special allowances have been allocated to them.

“Pas agrees with all the good initiatives for the people’s benefit, including the abolishment of four tolls.”

He said although many grants had been announced for institutions of higher learning, more could be done to improve research and development in universities.

“More research should be conducted because the findings can create a positive impact by increasing the people’s income.”
