DISABLED MAN, WOMAN TO HANG
Two drug charges had been levelled against the man and single mum
ADISABLED man and his girlfriend yesterday were sentenced to hang for trafficking 28.67 grammes of drugs in Kulim two years ago.
The couple were also given a 10year jail sentence for possessing 39.41g of methamphetamine. The man was additionally sentenced to 10 strokes of the rotan.
High Court judge Datuk Hashim Hamzah, in delivering the verdict, said the court found the accused had failed to prove reasonable doubt.
In the dock were used car salesman Muhamad Samri Hashim, 40, and Salina Dtiauddin, 32.
Both were found guilty of trafficking 28.67g of dangerous drugs, comprising 23.32g of heroin and 3.55g of monoacethymorphines, under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In the second charge, the duo were found guilty of possessing 39.41g of methamphetamine under Section 12(2) of the same act and faced penalties under Section 39A(2) of the same act.
Both offences were committed in a car at 1am on March 12, 2015, in Jalan Bukit Awi, Kulim.
Salina, a single mother of three, was seen wiping away tears when the judge delivered the verdict.
Samri, who lost his right leg in an accident, looked down.
Lawyer Burhanudeen Abdul Wahid, in mitigation, said the offence was Salina’s first. She had worked as a welfare volunteer.
The case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Norshuhada Mohd Yatim.
