Afdlin to direct ‘Baik Punya Cilok 2’ next year

-

IT will be a milestone in local cinema history with four Datuks costarring in a hilarious adventure as best buddies.

Yes, actor/director Datuk Afdlin Shauki will make it happen next year with Baik Punya Cilok 2.

He will reunite Aben, Jerry, Bob and Wak — the four buddies who love fishing and got more than they bargained for in their first adventure Baik Punya Cilok , 12 years ago.

The four friends, now older and wiser, are back for a crazier adventure — this time, they will be pursued by ruthless pirates after they stumble on a mysterious treasure map.

“Baik Punya Cilok 2 begins filming in January, for 45 days.

“The location is likely to be one of Sabah’s serene, offshore islands,” Afdlin told the New Straits Times yesterday.

Afdlin, 46, will reprise his role as Aben, while Datuk Hans Isaac, Datuk Awie and Datuk A.C. Mizal will be back as Jerry, Bob and Wak respectively.

The director plans to rope in Emma Maembong, Kamal Adli, Johan, Jalil Hamid and Khir Rahman to complete the new cast.

“Riezman Khuzaimi will be back, too, as Malik, the secondary villain of the first movie, who is out to seek revenge against the four friends.

“I plan to have Jalil play Bob’s father, the headman of the serene island, and Khir the pirate chief, since he was great as one in the 2011 movie, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa,” said Afdlin.

Afdlin, who is writing the script said, Baik Punya Cilok 2 would be mainly about Bob, who discovers the map while on holiday with his friends in his father’s village.

“The treasure is the subject of a legend, and a fearsome bunch of pirates are out to find it.

When they learn that Bob has the map, they kidnap his father, to force him to lead them to the treasure — here’s where the boys’ adventure starts!”

Afdlin plans to have two more Baik Punya Cilok films, and this means each of the four friends has his own story.

“The first adventure was about Wak and the second will be about Bob — Jerry and Aben will follow in the years to come.”

Asked whether the sequel would be made into a musical, Afdlin said “anything is possible”.

Baik Punya Cilok collected RM1 million at the box office and was staged as a musical at Istana Budaya in April 2015.
