Proton posts 12.5pc sales increase

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd posted a 12.5 per cent sales increase year-to-date, with 56,297 units sold compared with 50,091 in the same period a year ago.

In a statement yesterday, the national carmaker said despite the large decline in overall car sales in September due to the public holidays, total industry volume (TIV) rose 1.7 per cent to 425,711 units from 418,277 units last year.

Proton vice-president of sales and marketing Abdul Rashid Musa said the company was fortunate for planning its Saga and Persona launches in August and September last year.

“With the upgrades done on both cars, we have gained traction in car sales, largely contributed by both the Saga and Persona, which make up 42.7 per cent (24,061 units) and 27.4 per cent (15,448 units), respectively, for Proton’s overall car sales, year-to-date,” he said.

He said Saga and Persona also performed better than last year, with a sales increase of 9,661 units.

“The Persona saw a 90 per cent increase in sales compared with the same period last year,” Abdul Rashid said, adding that Proton’s efforts to bring its cars closer to consumers were beginning to show results.

He said Proton had been doing more roadshows, especially during weekends, and was actively promoting the key safety features of its cars, which had generated a lot of public interest.

“This is a positive sign for Proton and this is why we need a good partner: to ensure that we can continue to remain competitive in the market.

“We are aware that there will be constant challenges coming our way and, with our partner, we will continuously work together for better outcomes,” he said.

Proton has extended its Amazing Five Value Promotion, which offers five-year free service and five-year warranty for Proton cars purchased nationwide.
