Man pleads not guilty to stabbing Umno member
SHAH ALAM: A unemployed man was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with causing hurt to Umno supreme council member Datuk Sohaimi Shahadan last Friday.
Muhamad Ikhwan Khairi, 29, pleaded not guilty to intentionally causing injury to Sohaimi, 48, with a knife at No. 48, Jalan Desa Mocis 3, Sungai Pelong at 8.45pm on Oct 27.
Sohaimi sustained severe head trauma, which affected his occipital nerve.
Judge Rihaida Rafie ordered the accused to be sent for psychiatric observation, and fixed Dec 5 for mention.
Ikhwan was also charged in the magistrate’s court with causing injury to Sohaimi’s nephew, Mohd Zulkifli Zainal, 38, with a knife on the same night.
Acting on behalf of the accused, defence counsel Mohd Hazrin Alif Wahab applied for Ikhwan to be sent to a hospital for psychiatric assessment, and requested that no confession be recorded pending the medical report.
Magistrate Siti Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin ordered Ikhwan to be sent to a psychiatric hospital, and fixed the same mention date.
Deputy public prosecutors Nurul Nadia Basri and Amira Haziqah Zulkifli prosecuted.
Sohaimi and Zulkifli were sent to KPJ Hospital in Damansara for emergency treatment.
They are reported to be in stable condition.
