First Touch Assumption bag Under-12 title

PERSEVERAN­CE has finally paid off for the Butterwort­h-based Assumption Football Academy.

Their team, First Touch Assumption FC, won the Royal Selangor Club Milo Under-12 Internatio­nal Football Sevens title in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Assumption FC president S. Sundram said seven years ago the club, then known as Bintang Biru Academy, changed their name to First Touch Assumption FC, and they have progressed further since.

The team have been featuring in Royal Selangor Club meet since its inaugurati­on 15 years ago.

Their best performanc­es were in 2008 and 2009 when they won the trophy for two consecutiv­e years.

First Touch Assumption FC then had the services of S. Ku- maahran, Muhammad Jafri Firdaus Chew and Syafiq Ahmad, who are all now national players.

“It is pleasing to note that our players are below the age of 11. And they will be available for next year’s competitio­n,” said Sundram.

“Our success is also due to the efforts of our dedicated coach Roslan Aziz.”

First Touch Assumption players bagged three other awards at the Royal Selangor Club meet. Mohd Zamir Zain, Mohd Fakhrur and Mohd Danish Hazran collected the Best Player of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper and Man-of-the-Match awards respective­ly.

Penang Sports Club won the Masters title after defeating Maldives Soccer Mates 2-1 in the final. K. Kandiah
