EESL to offer cheaper LED bulbs to Melaka households
NEW DELHI: An Indian public sector company will implement an energy efficiency scheme i n Melaka by distributing three million light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs.
Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which works under Ind i a ’ s P o w e r M i n i s t r y, a n d Malaysia-based organisation Green Growth Asia announced their partnership to carry out the Melaka project, here, on Wednesday.
EESL will offer households in Melaka some three million ninewatt LED lights at half the market price.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who witnessed the signing of the agreement, said the scheme was expected to result in savings of RM30.66 million in electricity bills annually and reduce 57,000 tonnes of car- bon dioxide emissions per year.
“Looking at the impact and the successful implementation of energy-efficiency programmes in the country, we will be happy to collaborate for future initiatives,” he said.
Idris and his delegation had earlier participated in an international forum on sustainable cities in the Indian capital.
Idris said the LED bulb scheme, known by its Indian acronym Ujala (Unnati Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All), would help Melaka achieve its sustainable development targets.
The state has launched several projects such as urban transport, green buildings, water and waste management, and energy efficiency to promote environmental-friendly economic development and raise public awareness of climate issues. Bernama
