Liow: DAP abandons principles to forge alliance with Dr M

-

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA trained its guns on the opposition and accused DAP of abandoning its principles by forging an alliance of convenience with former nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday said despite attacking Dr Mahathir in the past, DAP was supporting him to become the next prime minister if Pakatan Harapan won the 14th General Election.

“This is DAP’s hypocrisy at its highest level.

“Where is its dignity and principles?” said Liow at MCA’s 64th annual general assembly at Wisma MCA here.

Liow cited Lim Kit Siang’s criticisms of Dr Mahathir, who was repeatedly accused by DAP of demolishing the country’s democracy and judiciary.

“Lim is adopting a leader whom he had accused of (being involved in) mega scandals, cronyism, nepotism and draconian rule.”

He said Dr Mahathir was labelled by Lim as an iron-fisted dictator who was responsible for the judicial crisis in 1988, the constitutional crises of 1983 and 1993, and Op Lalang in 1987.

“But now, he has forgotten and made a U-turn.

“This is DAP, consistently inconsistent.”

He said MCA and Barisan Nasional, unlike DAP, were consistent in their struggles.

“We may differ, we may disagree, but we always come to a consensus to decide what is best for this multiracial nation.”

Liow, who is also transport minister, said DAP was willing to abandon Pas and embrace Dr Mahathir’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) to wrest political control.

“It is a marriage of convenience. DAP, despite preaching a non-racial approach in the past, is working with Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and PPBM, which are race-based parties.”

DAP’s ties with Pas were severed in 2015, which led to the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat.

In March this year, PPBM joined forces with DAP, PKR and PAN under the Pakatan Harapan alliance to face Barisan Nasional in GE14, which must be held by August.

Labelling Pakatan Harapan as “evil”, Liow said the pact was only interested in hurling accusations to bring down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration.

“If it is good, sincere and pure, Pakatan Harapan should reveal its shadow cabinet.

“Will this evil shadow cabinet be headed by prime ministerdesignate Dr Mahathir or Lim? The people are in the dark.”

Liow said MCA was ready for the general election.

“I can feel the energy. We are ready for the next GE. Today’s AGM can be described as a clarion call to all,” he said, adding that MCA was united following the implementation of its threepronged transformation programme.
