POLICE have arrested the manager of a cake shop over allegation that he had raped a teenager, five days after she began working for him.

Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari confirmed that the man, in his 50s, was picked up in an operation yesterday.

“The man was arrested at 3.45am in a hotel in Puchong,” he said.

Azlin added that the remand application would be made in the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court.

It was reported that the incident was believed to have occurred on Oct 24 at the man’s apartment in Puchong Prima.

The man had taken the victim to his home about 11am under the pretext of helping him collect some items.

He had asked her to follow him inside one of the rooms to retrieve several items. As she walked inside, the man locked the door behind her and allegedly raped her twice.

The girl’s parents lodged a report when she told them about the incident.

Many social media users reacted to the report since it was published yesterday.

Facebook user Firman Mohamed questioned what was wrong with the world as there were so many rape and murder cases these days.

“What is wrong with humans nowadays? Raping and killing here and there. Don’t all religions ask (us) not to commit sin?” he posted.

Another user, Rose Lena, praised the family’s action for coming forward to report the incident.

She said rape and abuse victims should have the courage to lodge police reports.

Meanwhile in Jitra, police have launched a probe on the claim by a 35-year-old psychiatric patient that she was raped by the operator of a welfare home here.

Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said the woman, who was sent to the home by her family last year, claimed that she was raped by the man who operated the welfare centre.

However, he said the woman could not remember the date of the alleged incident. “The victim told her family that she had sex with the welfare home operator but could not remember the date.

“The family then referred her to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. Based on the preliminary checkup, the doctor found an old tear in her private parts,” he said.

It was learnt that the family took the woman home after the welfare home ceased operations two weeks ago.

Ismail said the woman was warded at the hospital for further examination and psychiatric treatment.

“Checks showed that the welfare home ceased its operation two weeks ago.

“A neighbour told our investigators that the man who operated the home had not been seen since then.”

Police have classified the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape which carries a maximum of 30 years’ imprisonment and caning, if convicted.
