ILLEGAL TOWER BOTHERS RESIDENTS

-

AN illegal telecommunications tower near AEON Seri Manjung, Perak, is causing much distress to local residents.

They claim the tower is hazardous and an eyesore, adding that a notice by state entity, KPerak INC Corporation states the structure did not have the necessary approvals.

Photos were made available to NST Actionline by readers to back these claims.

Resident Adzuan Abdullah, said the residents in the area had formally written to the Manjung District Council a few weeks ago, asking them to take down the tower.

He also questioned whether the structure erected was legal.

Adzuan wanted to know the name of the company and contractor involved in putting up the structure.

He added that if the council failed to get back to them within two weeks, the residents would take the matter to Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.

ACTIONLINE:

A source within the Manjung Municipal Council said the tower had lapsed into illegality some time back and a notice had been sent to the landowner of the commercial lot to remove the temporary structure in late September.

She said another notice would be sent to the landowner soon as a reminder.

“If he or she fails to take down the tower within a grace period that will stipulated in the notice, we will take down the structure and bill him or her as provided by law,” she said.

She added that the notice would be sent under Section 71(1) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act of 1974 for setting up an illegal building.

The council also acknowledged that the residents’ grouses had been received and they were now in the midst of preparing the paperwork to send the notice to the owner.

She said the tower was allowed to be built some months back as a temporary structure.
