-

NATIONAL bowler Adrian Ang got Malaysia off to a great start in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour’s World Series of Bowling when he made the top 16 in the Chameleon Championship on Wednesday.

Adrian recorded a 20th career perfect game en route to amassing a 10-game total of 2,359 pinfalls, placing him in joint eighth at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.

Only the top 16 players from the starting field of 195 made the cut for the match play event, which will be held next week.

Adrian, who is making his debut in the PBA Tour, when contacted said: “It’s definitely a good start considering that this is our first time being part of the prestigious series.

“The oiling pattern suits me, so I was able to play a solid game.

“And it also gives me great joy to be able to roll my 20th perfect game here on the PBA Tour. All in all, I have 31 now, including 11 during training,” said Adrian.

Seven other Malaysians, however, failed to make the cut with former World Cup winner Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek being the next best performer at 60th with a 2,188 total.

The other Malaysians in the PBA Tour are Alex Liew, Timmy Tan, Rafiq Ismail, Shalin Zulkifli and independent bowler Zulmazran Zulkifli.

The Chameleon Championship is the first of five events on the PBA World Series of Bowling.

The Shark Championship, which is the second in the series, got underway late yesterday, and will be followed by the Cheetah Championship (tomorrow), Scorpion Championship (on Sunday) and the PBA World Championship (on Monday).

All match play rounds will be held on Nov 15-18. Fabian Peter
