IIB, UEM and Khazanah to celebrate Iskandar Puteri’s city status
KUALA LUMPUR: Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB), UEM Sunrise Bhd and Khazanah Nasional Bhd are jointly organising Iskarnival 2017 for the sixth time to celebrate Iskandar Puteri’s newly-acquired city status.
This is to take place on November 22.
Khazanah investments director Selvendran Katheerayson said the festival intended to enhance participation of the local community in Iskandar Puteri.
“Iskarnival continues to highlight opportunities available for the local community while promoting social inclusion activities as a collective effort to create a vibrant environment in Iskandar Puteri.
“Following the 10year anniversary of Iskandar Malaysia last year, this year we are celebrating another significant milestone — Iskandar Puteri’s city status.
This provides further impetus and added momentum to its continued growth and development, he said during a press conference on Iskarnival 2017, here, yesterday.
He said, this year, the carnival expected to welcome over 100,000 visitors versus last year’s 97,000 visitors.
The Johor-based arts and culture carnival will bring people together through youth and family-friendly entertainment, fun filled activities and music.
Iskarnival Kool, led by UEM Sunrise, will highlight Malaysian pop culture and trends while Iskarnival Aktif, spearheaded by IIB, will focus on sports and outdoor recreation.
UEM Sunrise managing director/chief executive officer (CEO) Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said Iskarnival Kool aimed to highlight the many opportunities available in the new creative economy for the local community and showcase talents developed over the last 10 years within Iskandar Malaysia’s inception and history.
“We expect to attract visitors from diverse backgrounds to sample the lifestyle as experienced by residents, home owners, workers or holiday makers at Iskandar Puteri, and hope it will grow into an international event,” he said.
IIB president and chief executive officer Datuk Ir Khairil Anwar Ahmad said Iskarnival supported IIB’s mission to steer economic, social and environmentally-sustainable growth in Iskandar Malaysia, and to put Iskandar Puteri on the map as a preferred destination for sports, education, lifestyle, investment and career.
