Two orchestras, one showcase

FRESH from its collaboration with the RTM Orchestra last month, the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra continues to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a collaboration with Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia (OTM).
Themed Konsert Tanah Airku, this partnership is scheduled on Nov 17 and 18, at 8.30pm daily, at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
This will be the orchestras’ second collaboration; the first one was in 2014 in Johor Baru.
Prior to this, the MPYO has also collaborated with Yayasan Warisan Johor, Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra andQueenslandYouthSymphonyOrchestra.
All collaborations have stretched the MPYO’s virtuosity and versatility to another level.
These concerts will affirm the MPYO’s status as an orchestra full of vibrant enthusiasm and energy, having grown by leaps and bounds since its establishment in 2006.
With its current 98 members, the MPYO aims to nurture and encourage young musicians in their passion and integrate them into a highly skilled ensemble.
In its brief existence, it has showcased its brilliant musicianship all around Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, Singapore and Brisbane, Australia.
The formation of the OTM is an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture through
Istana Budaya for reorganising the traditional musicians as well as allowing traditional Malaysian music to achieve a high professional international standing.
It is seen as a key catalyst for the Malaysian music revolution in the 21st century with its core repertoire comprises music of diverse ethnic groups.
The amalgamation of various genres acts as a means of uniting citizens of Malaysia.

This will be Ramli’s third performance on the DFP stage; he was the guest artiste for Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim’s concert in 2008 and held his solo concert in 2010.
