Two orchestras, one showcase

FRESH from its collaborat­ion with the RTM Orchestra last month, the Malaysian Philharmon­ic Youth Orchestra continues to celebrate its 10th anniversar­y with a collaborat­ion with Orkestra Tradisiona­l Malaysia (OTM).

Themed Konsert Tanah Airku, this partnershi­p is scheduled on Nov 17 and 18, at 8.30pm daily, at Dewan Filharmoni­k Petronas, KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

This will be the orchestras’ second collaborat­ion; the first one was in 2014 in Johor Baru.

Prior to this, the MPYO has also collaborat­ed with Yayasan Warisan Johor, Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra andQueensl­andYouthSy­mphonyOrch­estra.

All collaborat­ions have stretched the MPYO’s virtuosity and versatilit­y to another level.

These concerts will affirm the MPYO’s status as an orchestra full of vibrant enthusiasm and energy, having grown by leaps and bounds since its establishm­ent in 2006.

With its current 98 members, the MPYO aims to nurture and encourage young musicians in their passion and integrate them into a highly skilled ensemble.

In its brief existence, it has showcased its brilliant musiciansh­ip all around Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, Singapore and Brisbane, Australia.

The formation of the OTM is an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture through

Istana Budaya for reorganisi­ng the traditiona­l musicians as well as allowing traditiona­l Malaysian music to achieve a high profession­al internatio­nal standing.

It is seen as a key catalyst for the Malaysian music revolution in the 21st century with its core repertoire comprises music of diverse ethnic groups.

The amalgamati­on of various genres acts as a means of uniting citizens of Malaysia.

This will be Ramli’s third performanc­e on the DFP stage; he was the guest artiste for Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim’s concert in 2008 and held his solo concert in 2010.
