Ex-accountant fined RM3,000 for obstructing MPSJ officer
PETALING JAYA: A former accountant was fined RM3,000 in default three months’ jail by the magistrate’s court here yesterday for preventing a Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) enforcement personnel from doing his job.
Magistrate Salamiah Salleh sentenced Lew Yoke Peng, 43, after she changed her plea to guilty on a charge of wilfully obstructing Nor Safuan Noordin, 31, from performing his duty at Jalan Puteri 1/4, Bandar Puteri, Puchong near here, at 1pm on Sept 6.
The charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of two years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, on conviction.
According to the facts of the case, Lew had parked her car at the bay reserved for differently abled persons, prompting MPSJ to clamp the vehicle.
Incensed by the action, she took a steering wheel lock and brandished it at the enforcement personnel, while berating him.
Deputy public prosecutor Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin urged the court to impose a heavier sentence as the offence committed by the accused was serious and tantamount to disregarding the law.
“Therefore, the punishment should serve as a lesson to the accused and the public not to challenge the enforcement authorities in carrying out their duties,” said Abu Arsalnaa.
Lew’s lawyer, Lim Chi Chau, in mitigation asked for the accused to be fined only as she had repented while in prison and promised not to repeat the offence. Bernama
