PROBE PAPERS ON MACC CHIEF TO BE RESUBMITTED
A-GC needs more information, says IGP
POLICE will resubmit investigation papers on the alleged extramarital affair involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said investigation papers were first submitted to the A-GC on Oct 17 and Oct 30.
However, he said, the papers were returned as the A-GC needed more information.
“The papers were sent back to us. There are many follow-up steps that we have to do before we can resubmit the papers,” he said here yesterday.
Dzulkifli is at the centre of controversy after videos of him surfaced holidaying in Bali with a woman who is not his wife.
Police are investigating him under Section 498 of the Penal Code for enticing a married woman.
Dzulkifli had addressed the issue, saying that “the allegations were dirty and despicable, with the intention to tarnish his reputation and discrediting MACC’s efforts in combating corruption”.
On another matter, Fuzi said it was the police’s responsibility to investigate former Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, who had been linked to claims that Pas received RM90 million from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Fuzi was responding to a statement by the Malaysian Bar, in which it condemned the investigation as an act of harassment and intimidation against Ambiga.
News portal Sarawak Report recently alleged that Najib paid Pas RM90 million in exchange for the party’s support.
Its editor, Clare Rewcastle-Brown, had named Ambiga as her source.
“What is important is that there were police reports lodged, so we have to investigate. The allegation of someone giving RM90 million is serious,” Fuzi said.
However, he said, police had yet to summon Ambiga to give her statement.
