Actor arrested for gate-locking protest
SHAH ALAM: An actor and road safety activist landed himself in the soup with the authorities after chaining and locking the gate of the Petaling District and Land Office in Section U5 here on Thursday.
The man’s actions, done in protest against what he claimed was the government department’s failure to provide safe road conditions to the public, also saw his wife and a friend being locked up.
Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the three were arrested at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters on Friday night after giving their statements to the police.
“The suspects were arrested following a report lodged by the Petaling District and Land Office.
“We are investigating the case under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.
“The three are being detained for 24 hours to facilitate the probe,” he said, adding that police would only ask for a remand order if they found a need to.
The actor had on Thursday gone to the office with his group of road activists, called “The Brotherhood”, to protest poor road conditions at Persiaran Atmosfera there.
A video of the actor locking the office gate while making a statement has since gone viral on social media, having been shared from his Facebook page almost 2,000 times.
The actor was recorded in the video as saying that he decided to lock the office’s gate due to the government department’s alleged failure to take action despite its office being situated at the roadside.
