‘No formal directive from hotel industry over hijab issue’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Association of Hotels president Sam Cheah Swee Hee yesterday said there was no formal directive for the hotel industry to prohibit women who wear the tudung, from workin in the frontline.

He said each hotel however would have different uniform code.

“I was wrongly quoted before.. my actual comment was that the industry does not prohibit workers from wearing the hijab, but that each hotel has different uniform codes.

“These codes are not governed by the hotel association,” he said.

He also denied saying that there was an international standard that allowed hotels to ban their females workers who cover up from being at the frontline.

“I did not say that there is an international standard (that allows hotels to prohibit its workers from wearing hijab),” Cheah said,

My actual comment was that the industry does not prohibit workers from wearing the hijab, but that each hotel has different uniform codes.
