Ministers to give insights

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2017 National Undergraduates Leadership Conference (Pemanas) will be held for six days from Nov 29 to Dec 4 at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Umno Education Bureau chairman Tan Sri Ibrahim Abu Shah said the conference would be attended by 350 participants. He said the event would feature more than 20 talks by senior ministers on economics, education, religion and politics.

Ibrahim said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin would deliver a talk on cost of living on Nov 30. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki will speak on the need to uphold the royal institution on Dec 1.

“Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh will speak on challenges faced by undergraduates in the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Dec 1 as well,” Ibrahim said at a media briefing here yesterday.

He said the talks were aimed at ensuring that graduates understood the government’s direction.

“This will be good as their ideas and views are advanced. So, this helps them steer the country’s development,” he said, adding that this was in line with the conference’s objective, which was anchored on the theme “Graduates are the Architects of Malaysia’s New Era”.

The debates, which kick off on Dec 2, will culminate in the top six speakers being selected to attend the Umno General Assembly next month. The event, organised by the Umno Education Bureau, was first held in 2013.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to close the conference at Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam on Dec 3.

The event will be aired live on Facebook. For details, visit the conference’s official Facebook page “Pemanas 2017”.
