-

KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-six children of Media Prima Bhd employees, who achieved excellent results in their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Form 3 Assessment (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) last year, were honoured yesterday at MPB’s Excellent Academic Awards 2016.

The ceremony was officiated by Media Prima group chairman Tan Sri Ismee Ismail.

Present were Media Prima group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid, Big Tree Outdoor chief operating officer Mohamad Shukor Ariffin, New Straits Times Press chief commercial officer Alfian Abu Talib, and Media Prima group human resources general manager Nor Arzlin Redzwan.

Ismee said the award was the company’s token of appreciation to the staff for their effort at work and at home, resulting in the excellent results achieved by their children.

“Congratulations to all students who have tried their best in attaining great results for their examinations.

“It is hoped that this award will be a source of inspiration for the recipients to achieve excellence, not only for themselves, but also for their families and the community.

“This is also to honour the parents who have sacrificed time and energy to ensure the success of their children,” he said.

Ismee stated that Media Prima emphasised a balanced lifestyle, adding that while career was important, so was one’s family; as such, the welfare and trust of the family should be given priority.

Preeteeba Jaya Kumar, 13, daughter of New Straits Times editorial staff Jaya Kumar Arlandoo, 47, was announced as the top scorer for UPSR.

Preeteeba said her success in obtaining 8As in the UPSR exam was through discipline.

“It is important to focus fully on the lessons in class, and if you do not understand a particular topic being taught, always ask immediately.

“My mum is my number one mentor who guided me towards success,” Preeteeba said.

At the event, the 46 students were presented with prize money and award plaques.
