Forest City bags green building award, again
JOHOR BARU: Forest City recently won the Global Model of Green Building Industrial Park award, which is part of the Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award (Scahsa) presented by the Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS).
This marked the second time that Forest City, which is being developed by Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd, had won the award.
The company received the prize in New York.
GFHS is a non-profit organisation with Special Consultative Status under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc), which is committed to building sustainable cities and human settlements.
The Scahsa award, established by GFHS, is a trendsetter for urban construction in sustainable development.
Forest City, China’s Wuyi County and Indonesia’s Surabaya City were among the winning entries picked from 23 countries and regions.
Country Garden vice-general manager for overseas business Dr Wang Jiying said by taking full advantage of its technical resources, Forest City was creating a 1.7sq km construction-focused industrial park.
“It is part of our efforts to promote the development of a green building industry and improve building precision and quality,” said Wang.
Forest City’s industrial park, with a gross floor area spanning some 1.6 million sq m, is conveniently located in the northwest of Forest City, near the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, and is about 10km from Forest City’s Island One.
The park is on track to evolve into a leading comprehensive and modern manufacturing facility for construction products, with a reach across Asia and globally, by integrating the entire industry chain, including construction engineering, prefabrication, logistics and transport, parts processing, assembly and construction, and scientific research and development.
The first phase of the modern prefabrication plant has been completed and is ranked first in Asia in terms of single-building capacity.
The second phase of the park is under construction, and will include two specialty plants, each about the same size as the facilities in the first phase.
After the completion of the two plants, the park is expected to become the world’s largest industrial production facility for construction products in terms of overall capacity.
Forest City will include several support facilities and a water transport system, all of which are expected to be operational by 2019, with the aim of creating a truly industrialised manufacturing base for the construction industry over the next three to five years.
Forest City has won a number of international awards over the past years, including the BSLA Merit Award, one of the most prestigious design awards in the United States.
The project’s International Clubhouse was awarded the LEED-CS Gold Pre-Certification by the US Green Building Council.
