Muhyiddin: PPBM to submit plan to RoS tomorrow
PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has until tomorrow to avoid being deregistered by the Registry of Societies (RoS).
PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would submit a plan to comply with RoS’ requirements and was confident it would not be deregistered.
Following a meeting with RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim, Muhyiddin said PPBM would comply with the requirements, and the first step would be to provide a plan by tomorrow.
“We explained that we are still in the formative stages, with our branches and divisions being set up. Even those that exist have only been set up recently.”
PPBM faces the threat of deregistration for violating its party constitution and the Societies Act 1966.
Among violations were the failure to hold its first annual general meeting (AGM) following its formation on Sept 16 last year, the formation of its youth wing (Armada), which had not been stipulated in its constitution, and the postponement of its AGM without adhering to provisions in its constitution.
Accompanied by his deputy, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, in yesterday’s meeting with Surayati, Muhyiddin said: “RoS understood our predicament, so we hope members will not panic.”
On whether this issue would affect the registration of Pakatan Harapan, which also hanged in the balance, Muhyiddin denied that was the case.
“That was not discussed. This was strictly a meeting to settle issues pertaining to our party (PPBM),” he said.
“These issues will also not affect our participation in the general election. These are merely registration matters that we need to comply with.”
He said the party was not pressed to hold its AGM before the general elections, but would hold it in due course.
On whether there was a time frame by which PPBM should comply with the requirements, he said that would be stated in their plan to be submitted to RoS by tomorrow.
