Terengganu, Selangor eye semi-finals

TERENGGANU and Selangor moved a step closer towards the semi-finals following wins in their respective TNB-Women’s Razak Cup group matches at KLHA Stadium in Pantai yesterday.

The east coast side defeated a stubborn Indonesia 2-0 in a Group A match while Selangor edged Armed Forces 2-1 in Group B.

Auni Athika Ghani (53rd) and Siti Azlinda Atan (58th) were the toast with a goal each for Terengganu.

“We scored two late goals. We are now placed in a position to qualify for the semi-finals. It’s not over yet as we play Perak today in a match that we must win,” said Terengganu coach Harun AlRashid.

Indonesian captain Feriana, said: “I am happy with our performanc­e. We had our chances to win our first game here, but our finishing was just not there.”

In the other match, Siti Rahmah Othman netted for Armed Forces in the 26th minute, only for Selangor to bounce back through goals by Fatin Shafikah Mohd Sukri (38th) and Raja Norsharina Raja Shabuddin (39th).

“My players fought back gallantly to win. Armed Forces gave us a tough time,” said Selangor coach Ikmar Abdul Jabar.

Armed Forces coach Azizan Mustafa said: “We were unlucky. Selangor played well in the second quarter.

“The pressure is now intense for us as we have to beat Melaka today to qualify for the semi-finals.”

Selangor, who drew 1-1 with Melaka on Sunday, lead the group with four points while Armed Forces and Johor are second and third with three points each, followed by Melaka on one point.

RESULTS — Group A: Terengganu 2 Indonesia 0, Perak 0 Pahang 2; Group B: Armed Forces 1 Selangor 2.

TODAY’S FIXTURES —

Group A: Perak v Terengganu (5pm), Kuala Lumpur v Indonesia (7pm);

Group B: Melaka v Armed Forces (8am), Johor v Selangor (3pm).
