TM’s Q3 net profit surges 32.5pc

Company nets RM211.82m versus RM159.84m previously

-

TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM) registered a 32.5 per cent jump in net profit to RM211.82 million in the third quarter ended September 30 this year from RM159.84 million previously.

The higher profit excluded items such as unrealised foreign exchange impact on borrowings and international trade settlements, said TM.

Its revenue in the same quarter rose 0.6 per cent to RM2.94 billion from RM2.92 billion before.

For the nine-month period, TM’s net profit eased marginally to RM508.31 million from RM508.4 million while revenue increased 0.7 per cent to RM8.89 billion from RM8.82 billion, on the back of bigger Internet revenue contribution through higher Unifi customer base and premium channel buys.

TM group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly said the group posted stronger growth in Unifi as net addition doubled quarteron-quarter by 55,000 to 1.06 million customers.

“This is the highest quarterly Unifi net add we have achieved since the third quarter of 2012. To date, more than 94 per cent of our Unifi customers are on 10Mbps (megabit per second) and higher packages compared with only 75 per cent last year.

“Our mobility service, Unifi mobile (previously known as webe) showed very encouraging performance and to date, we have achieved eight per cent of TM’s household penetration in financial year 2017 target ahead of expectations,” he said in a separate statement.

Shazalli said TM was progressing well in executing Perfexe 10 to quicken its pace in accelerating convergence and empowering digitisation.

“We have firmly embedded our aspirational targets in our business planning and would continue to roll out various initiatives, with very precise execution plans.

“To date, we have achieved numerous internal milestones in the programme, which motivates us to keep delivering on our plans,” he said.
