PM HORRIFIED BY EGYPT ATTACK
No Malaysians in terror attack, says Wisma Putra
PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed his horror over the terror attack at a mosque in Egypt on Friday which saw at least 305 people killed.
It was the deadliest terrorist attack in modern Egypt’s history.
“Horrified by the attack on innocent worshippers at al-Rawda mosque in Egypt. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones,” Najib tweeted yesterday.
Reports said at least 305 worshippers at the mosque in Egypt’s North Sinai province were killed when gunmen set off a bomb then began firing during Friday prayers.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in the terror attack.
In a statement yesterday, Wisma Putra advised Malaysians residing around the area to remain vigilant at all times and abide by the instructions of the authorities there.
“The ministry, through the Malaysian embassy in Cairo, will continue to monitor the developments related to the incident. Should there be any query or assistance needed, Malaysians can get in touch with the embassy in Cairo at +2 02 37610013, +2 012 00276388, or through email at mwcairo@kln.gov.my,” it said.
Wisma Putra said the Malaysian government strongly condemned the attack on the mosque in al-Rawda village, located between the Bir Al Abed and Al Arish cities in North Sinai.
