No Malaysians in terror attack, says Wisma Putra

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed his horror over the terror attack at a mosque in Egypt on Friday which saw at least 305 people killed.

It was the deadliest terrorist attack in modern Egypt’s history.

“Horrified by the attack on innocent worshipper­s at al-Rawda mosque in Egypt. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones,” Najib tweeted yesterday.

Reports said at least 305 worshipper­s at the mosque in Egypt’s North Sinai province were killed when gunmen set off a bomb then began firing during Friday prayers.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in the terror attack.

In a statement yesterday, Wisma Putra advised Malaysians residing around the area to remain vigilant at all times and abide by the instructio­ns of the authoritie­s there.

“The ministry, through the Malaysian embassy in Cairo, will continue to monitor the developmen­ts related to the incident. Wisma Putra said the Malaysian government strongly condemned the attack on the mosque in al-Rawda village, located between the Bir Al Abed and Al Arish cities in North Sinai.

The attack also injured 128 others.
