‘CHINESE VOTERS RETURNING TO BN, MCA’

They are fed up with the opposition, says MCA president

CHINESE voters are going back to MCA and Barisan Nasional as they are fed up with the opposition, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the number of Chinese voters who would support MCA, especially the grassroots, increased by the day.

He said MCA had made a lot of inroads in understanding the feelings and needs of the people, especially on the cost of living.

“We can see that they are now well aware of the dirty tactics used by the opposition, especially DAP.

“Their dirty tactics include manipulating the people’s emotions, especially the Chinese community, when the election is near.

“DAP and its ally, PKR, would also instigate the people to hate the government so that they can gain the people’s votes,” he said yesterday.

He said the opposition would stop at nothing to propagate lies and slander, such as saying that Malaysia was a failed state and going bankrupt.

He said facts had proven otherwise, as Malaysia’s economy grew 6.2 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter, the strongest growth since the second quarter of 2014.

Liow, who is also transport minister, said Malaysia was well respected on the world stage.

“We have explained the best we can to the people so that they will not fall for the same lies by the opposition.

“The opposition’s ploy is to play up sensitive issues to divide the people,” he said after launching a community kindergarten and library by MCA in Bandar Tun Razak.

He said Bandar Tun Razak MCA chairman Datuk Chew Yin Keen, who was instrumental in setting up the facility, should stand as a candidate in the coming general election as he had been working hard in the constituency.

In the 2013 General Election, MCA suffered its worst defeat ever, winning only seven of the 37 parliamentary seats and 11 of the 90 state seats it contested.

In the 2008 General Election, it won 15 parliamentary and 31 state seats.

MCA’s poor performance in the last two general elections, coupled with continued infighting, had raised concerns over the party’s relevance in the Malaysian political arena.
