68 children take part in mass circumcision
SUNGK AI: Sixty-eight children took part in a mass circumcision in conjunction with Felcra’s health screening programme and Sunathon 2017 at Dewan Serbaguna Felcra Changkat Sulaiman here yesterday.
The programme was jointly organised by Felcra Foundation, Adabi Consumer Industry, Media Prima Bhd through its Media Prima-NSTP Volunteer Brigade, Felcra Foundation and medical officers and paramedics from Pertubuhan Himpunan Institusi Pendidik Malaysia (Haluan).
Felcra Foundation executive secretary Hashimuddin Hashim said this was the foundation’s third health screening programme. The previous events were held in Felcra Ulu Berang, Terengganu, and Felcra Seri Mahkota, Endau in Johor.
Next month, he said, the programme would be held in Kampung Kuala Keruak, Telupid in Sabah.
He said the programme was aimed at providing free medical check-ups for those living in rural areas.
“The programme aims to ease the burden of settlers’ and locals who live in the area. Also, we want to spread awareness of practising a healthy lifestyle.
“Besides the programme, 3,600 Felcra children from eight Felcra territories, who were involved in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), have participated in the Excellence Seminar in UPSR and SPM, which was held by Berita Harian’s Education Unit,” he said during the programme.
The event was officiated by Felcra Bhd Group Participants Affairs general manager Mohd Fauzi Mohd Tahir. Present were Felcra Bhd Perak Region general manager Hassan Khamis and 4B Youth Movement vice-president Mohd Amin Othman.
Meanwhile, Sunathon’s first participant, Khuzairi Sazali, 9, from SK Seri Changkat, admitted that he felt slightly afraid during the event.
“I felt nervous when they brought me in after my name was called out. But luckily, everything went well.
“I will remember this experience. I hope my friends will not be afraid to undergo circumcision because it does not hurt,” he said.
Khuzairi’s friend, Mohd Adam Danial Abdullah, 8, expressed relief after the circumcision ceremony went smoothly despite being teased by his schoolmates.
He also thanked the organisers for conducting the programme successfully.
