‘OPPOSITION’S TASK IS EASY’

They only make promises that they don’t intend to keep, says Khairy

IT is easy for opposition parties to make “promises” without having a track record to substantiate them. Barisan Nasional Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin said although some opposition parties were leading the administration of a few states, their scope of responsibilities and experience could not be compared with the Federal Government.

“As opposition parties, they do not have to prove anything.

“Yes, they are ruling some states. But leading a Federal Government is on an entirely different scale.

“The Federal Government has to look after the security of the country, people, health, education and many other matters.

“But the opposition’s task is easy, which is to make promises that they don’t intend to keep,” he said when opening the MyPPP Youth general assembly at Wisma Felcra here yesterday.

The Umno Youth chief also called for the BN component parties’ Youth wings to engage the six million young voters, who represent 46.6 per cent of all voters in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

Describing GE14 as a “very competitive” election, Khairy urged BN members to prove to the public their commitment to meet the people’s interests.

“I am sure that despite promises made by the opposition, the people can evaluate for themselves by comparing what the opposition is offering with what we have delivered all this while.

“I am confident that Malaysians will once again give their mandate to BN, but we must remember that this mandate will not come easy.

“We must convince the public that BN is still the best choice for their future.

“We must work hard and not make populist promises.”

Meanwhile, MyPPP’s Youth wing yesterday called for its party president Tan Sri M. Kayveas to be made Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat.

The call was made by MyPPP Youth chief Sathiah Sudakaran, who said it “was only fair” for Kayveas to contest the constituency since the party had been active on the ground in Cameron Highlands for three years.

However, Khairy, who is BN Youth chairman, said the matter could be decided only by Najib, who is the coalition’s chairman.
