THE government plans to increase the number of Mobile Community Transformation Centres (CTCs) to better cater to the needs of people living in rural areas.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Mobile CTCs were among the major programmes that had great impact on the people and were cost-effective.

He said they emulated the success of Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs), which offered a host of administrative services, such as those offered by the Immigration Department, National Registration Department and Road Transport Department, under one roof.

“We modify buses and go to rural areas to provide the services. The people are thus able to save on travelling expenses.

“I ask that the Mobile CTCs be increased to provide better and expanded services to the people,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

The prime minister was responding to a question from Libaran MP Datuk Juslie Ajirol on what was the government’s most beneficial, efficient and cost-effective programme under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).

Najib said Mobile CTCs were most popular in Sabah.

He said there were plans to have more high-impact projects under NBOS once they were deemed successful.

Since the launch of NBOS, he said, more than 80 government departments and agencies were implementing 115 collaborative projects.

“The results of cooperation among government departments and agencies have broken down the silo. These creative and collaborative NBOS initiatives have created a better understanding of their respective functions, given more depth and avoided duplication of agency functions.”

Najib said UTC and the PoliceArmy Collaboration programme were among the best examples of efficient programmes under NBOS.

“There are 20 UTCs nationwide. The government saved RM2 billion as UTCs are implemented by modifying existing buildings. People’s response and requests for UTC services are also encouraging as since 2013, UTCs have served more than 54 million visitors.”

Najib said as for the PoliceArmy Collaboration, the approach meant that the entities were capable of tackling any element seeking to undermine the country’s sovereignty.
