-

KUALA LUMPUR: Sapporo in Japan has been identified as the most popular up-and-coming destination of choice for Malaysian and Singaporean travellers, according to Agoda Travel & Tech study.

The survey was carried out on more than 16,000 respondents across 15 countries from February to April.

Top growing destinations are based on highest year-on-year bookings growth, comparing the period of December 2015 and December last year.

Sapporo’s December bookings experienced rapid growth of 145 and 161 per cent in Malaysia and Singapore, respectively.

Famous for its high quality seafood, Sapporo is a foodie’s paradise for 73 per cent of Malaysian and 71 per cent of Singaporean millennial travellers who chose food and dining as one of their preferred travel experiences.

Pair this with an epic ski season, the winter wonderland is preferred by Singaporeans and Malaysians looking to escape the heat and hit the slopes.

Taipei, featured as one of the fastest-growing destinations, is also a choice for Malaysians, Singaporeans and Filipinos.

“Travellers from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines want variety when they’re abroad, so there are a diverse group of destinations emerging as year-end holiday hot spots,” said Agoda global director for brand and communications Andrew Edwards.
