More arrests soon as manhunt continues

SHAH ALAM: There will be more arrests following the discovery of almost RM15 million in a hotel and apartment in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, during a recent crackdown on a prostitution ring.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the task force investigating the case had launched a manhunt for those behind the ring.

“We will be arresting several individuals soon. Apart from the arrests, we are also taking other actions,” said Mustafar.

He said the task force was still working in Kota Kinabalu.

“We are viewing the case from various aspects, such as how the syndicate amassed millions of ringgit and other factors, such as human trafficking and moneylaundering,” said Mustafar, who received the Khalid Al-Walid award at the Selangor state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration in Stadium Malawati, Section 13 here yesterday.

He was commenting on the department’s Op Gegar, in which almost RM15 million was seized up to Wednesday.

The haul was the biggest recorded by the department.

Most of the cash was found in drawers, boxes and under the bed in the hotel room, while the rest were found in an apartment unit nearby. The apartment unit belonged to one of the three men arrested, aged between 30 and 50, including a Filipino.

The man’s 46-year-old wife was also arrested in the same apartment in Jalan Api-Api.
