10 writers’ works compiled and published

PANGKOR: The state government has published a compilation of works presented during the eighth Pangkor International Poems and Folk Songs Festival (Pulara) held here.

State executive council member Datuk Dr Muhammad Amin Zakaria, who is the committee chairman for the “Malay Language and Literature Transcends Times” conference, said the book would contain the works of 10 writers who participated in the festival.

“We managed to compile their presentations so that they can be used as future reference. The publication of the book is seen as a catalyst in building a knowledgeable generation by empowering them in the field of language.

“The compilation of works of the speakers at the festival is something new. With the positive response from the participants and panelists, we hope to do this at every Pulara.

“We don’t want the people to assume that nothing fruitful comes from Pulara. The proceeding book will be used as a guidance in future,” he said.

Amin said the state government was willing to provide the materials to libraries in schools in Perak.

“The 167-page book was made available only to participants of Pulara. If there are requests from schools here, we will consider having them reprinted. The sharing of knowledge is essential as any discovery in researches should be made available for public reading to empower the usage of language,” he said, adding that the book was published by Ipoh Teachers’ Training Institute’s Malay Studies Department.

Present were national writer and poet Datuk Dr Zurinah Hassan and institute director Kamarulizham Hazizi.
