No foul play in German’s death

-

GEORGE TOWN: The discovery of the body of a German man in a budget hotel here caused a stir as rumours spread that there were bloodstains everywhere.

People speculated that he was brutally murdered as he was rumoured to have been bleeding from a head wound when his body was found.

However, police later ruled out foul play in the death of Martin Leonhard Brill, 46. He was believed to have died from loss of blood due to head injuries after a fall.

Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said Brill was said to have been suffering from depression, adding that investigators found a doctor’s letter that indicated he was also suffering from a psychiatric disorder.

Brill, who checked into the hotel on Nov 12, had been acting strangely since his fourth day there and had indicated to a hotel staff member that he wanted to commit suicide.

“He told the worker that both his brother and sister died in an accident two months ago and since then, he refused to eat food and was addicted to alcohol. He refused to go out, too.

“Most of the time he could not manage himself.

“He even threw away his clothes and covered himself in bedsheets.”

He said Brill was last seen about 11pm the previous night by a hotel staff, who saw him stumbling towards his room.

His body was found by another staff member, about 8am yesterday.
