Strong winds blow away catwalk record bid
LANGKAWI: An attempt yesterday to create a new Malaysian record for a fashion runway show at the highest altitude was cancelled due to unfavourable weather.
The much-awaited attempt by the 50 contestants of the Miss Tourism International 2017 World Final was cancelled after officials of Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Langkawi Skybridge, reported strong winds in the area.
It is learnt that strong winds forced the operator to temporarily cease the operation of Lang-kawi Skycab, a cable car system that links the nearly 700m-high Skybridge with the Oriental Village at the foot of Mount Ma-chinchang.
Following the cancellation, the contestants were brought to experience the attractions in the Oriental Village, which included the Langkawi 3D Museum and Skytrex.
The Langkawi Skybridge tour came on the second day of the beauties’ tour of the resort island after a packed schedule upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
The tour here saw them visiting the Air Hangat Village to experience the saltwater hot spring there and displaying their handicraft-making skills at the Lang-kawi Craft Complex.
A photo session was held at the Eagle’s Square yesterday before the contestants attended a gala dinner and talent show at the Langkawi International Convention Centre.
The dinner saw the contestants adjudged for the best participant throughout the island tour to be crowned as the Langkawi Tourism Ambassadress 2017.
Their island trip was hosted by the Langkawi Development Authority, and was part of their 18day activities for the beauty contest.
The coronation night will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. Bernama
