6 achievers get Puteri Young Icon Awards
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak was greeted with a standing ovation by Puteri members at the Merdeka Hall of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here yesterday.
The prime minister spent 30 minutes listening to the Umno wing’s debates before presenting Puteri Young Icon Awards to six high achievers in sports, entrepreneurship, research and development, religion and arts, as well as a special award from the Puteri movement.
The sports category was won by Sepang Puteri Umno division member Emma Firyana Saroji, 31, for her achievements in lawn bowling at the national and international levels.
In the entrepreneurship category, Nur Zalikha Mohd Sabri, 29, creative director of TasBijoux Sdn Bhd, was honoured for creating a high-end brand despite
humble beginnings as a parttime businesswoman.
For research and development, Dr Aizan Sofia Amon, 34, a lecturer of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, was lauded for producing 30 research papers, including on Malaysian Disabled Women’s Experiences in Employment.
For religion, the movement chose Datuk Hanimzah Jalaluddin, 35, an assistant religious affairs officer at the Pahang Religious
Affairs Department, for her involvement in Quranic recitation since she was 10 years old.
For arts, Shariffah Mariam Syed Abdullah, 30, a lecturer with the Aswara Theatre, was recognised for her involvement in arts and cultural activities since primary school.
For the special award, this year’s Rompin sports icon and Pahang Paralympian of the Year Wan Noraini Zainurian, 33, was
celebrated for her achievements in sports, social activities and politics.
Najib, who was on stage with Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, presented each of the high achievers with a trophy, a certificate and RM1,000 in cash.
He also gave out awards for the highest membership registration to three districts in Terengganu, namely Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Marang.
