Actress draws flak from Puteri delegate

-

z KUALA LUMPUR: A Puteri Umno delegate yesterday lashed out at an actress for making a “lessthan-intelligent” comment about Malaysia becoming a cashless society by 2050.

Melaka Puteri Umno delegate Khaidhirah Abu Zahar, who received applause from more than 900 delegates when she mentioned actress Nur Fathia Latiff, advised young women to emulate the struggle of past women leaders of the party instead of criticising the government on social media.

Nur Fathia’s tweet, “Are we going back to the Stone Age and doing barter trade? You give me a television and I give you a bicycle?”, went viral two months ago. She was responding to a news article about Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin saying that Malaysia would become a cashless society by 2050.

Khaidhirah said: “Emulate those mentioned by Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin such as ‘Ibu Zain’ and ‘Tun Fatimah (Hashim)’.

“If you don’t know them, then please throw away your smartphones. Why do we need to believe in the falsehood brought up by people such as Nur Fathia?

“If you want to talk about people’s rights or problems, go to the ground like what Puteri Umno is doing,” she said when debating the policy speech by the Puteri Umno chief yesterday.

Khaidhirah, who is also an actress, urged Puteri Umno members not to accept wholeheartedly things that were being spread on the social media.

“Good or bad, we must think and ask ourselves if the information we received is true or false,” said the daughter of the late Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Abu Zahar Ithnin.
