Nhaveen’s murder case postponed to Jan 11

-

GEORGE TOWN: The magistrate’s court here yesterday fixed Jan 11 for mention of T. Nhaveen’s murder case.

Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid fixed the date after deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Syafiq Mohd Sazali told the court that the prosecution was awaiting the chemist’s report.

He told the court that he had already obtained the postmortem report.

Only Nhaveen’s and the accused’s parents were allowed to follow the proceedings.

Lawyer Datuk Baljit Singh, who represented Nhaveen’s family, said they were disappointed with the delay in obtaining the chemist’s report.

“What is taking the prosecution so long to obtain the report?

“I hope they will ask the Chemistry Department to look into the matter,” Baljit said.

In the dock were J. Ragesuthan, 18, S. Gokulan, 18, and two juveniles, one aged 17 and the other 16. They are charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence.

A family member of the accused created a ruckus inside the courtroom when she raised her voice at a policeman who had told her that only the accused’s parents were allowed in sit in the public gallery.

She later told press photographers not to take her family’s photos when the case adjourned.

Earlier, the four accused were brought to the Sessions Court for the mention of the case where they were accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, to T. Previin, 19.

Judge Irwan Suainbon fixed Jan 11 for mention after he was told by the prosecution that it was awaiting the chemist’s report.

Datuk Ranjit Singh represented Ragesuthan and Gokulan, while one of the juveniles was represented by Manveer Singh and the other by S. Yagoo.

It was reported that Nhaveen was assaulted by a group of five boys as he was returning home with his friend Previin, on June 9. Nhaveen died of his injuries at Penang Hospital on June 16.
