REMAND EXTENSION FOR SUSPECTS
Court orders him and company director to be held until Friday
THE nephew of the Selangor menteri besar, together with a company director, will be held until tomorrow after the magistrate’s court here extended their remand for another three days.
Two other people, comprising a director and a site manager, were released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM15,000 and RM10,000, respectively, with one surety each, yesterday.
The four were arrested on Nov 29, by MACC over their alleged involvement in illegal sand and gravel mining activities in the state.
The remand extension and the bail were granted by magistrate Norhidayati Mohammad Nasroh.
The suspects, aged between 34 and 67 respectively, arrived at court at 9.30am.
Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s nephew, who is believed to be an advertising agency employee, was represented by lawyer Gobind Singh Deo.
It was reported that the investigation by MACC revealed that a sand-mining company had allegedly bribed local government officers in Kajang, where the company had been operating since 2014.
It was understood the officers were allegedly bribed to not take action against the activities.
Following the arrests, MACC froze RM4 million in the company’s bank account.
