DATUK Seri Najib Razak yesterday put Umno members on a war footing, laying out five key thrusts for the party to deliver a landslide victory in the impending 14th General Election.

In his fiery presidential policy address at the opening of the three-day annual party general assembly, the prime minister stressed that Umno members, from now on, must be in high fighting spirit and resolute with a winning mentality as they enter into the battlefield.

“It is going to be the mother of all elections. In this battle, we will fight to the end to achieve victory,” Najib said, drawing loud applause from the floor.

He said the first thrust was for the members to work as a team and reminded the party’s three wings to mobilise their election machinery and go to the ground to win the hearts of the people.

Najib said Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings must consolidate their strength to form a formidable force to fight the opposition as the election fever reached its peak.

“To win big, we must not be hesitant and must move as a team,” he said.

In the 90-minute address amid a sea of red in the packed Merdeka Hall at the Putra World Trade Centre here, Najib said the second thrust was for the party to move with confidence on the premise that it was on the right path and fighting for the right cause.

“This means everyone in Umno and Barisan Nasional is family. We need to move with a winning mentality, confidence and without fear or doubt,” he said.

Najib said with this spirit, members must also pledge their undivided loyalty and support to the party leadership and election candidates, and to not sabotage or boycott them instead.

He said the third thrust was for members to act swiftly and resolve challenges and problems through discussion, like a family.

“We must not falter and lose hope in our pursuit. If you get lost at the end of the road, we must return (to the family),” he said in his address that also drew a standing ovation.

Najib said the fourth thrust was for everyone to become cybertroopers and get involved in the cyber war.

“Members must be ready to defend the party in the cyber and digital world as that’s the real battlefield in the coming election,” he said.

“If we fail to conquer them, all our efforts will be meaningless.”

Najib said cyber war should not be left to only certain teams, and BN, with total membership of more than seven million people, had the advantage to dominate the digital world.

He said the final thrust was for members to be resolute and in high spirit in their fight and struggle; to plan well and give their best, and leave everything to the Almighty.

“Have faith that we are on the right path of a struggle that is blessed by God,” he said.

Umno and BN will face three groups of voters in the upcoming general election, said Najib.

He said the first group comprised party members who carried out their responsibility by voting for their own party, while the second were those who voted for the opposition.

“The third, the most important group for us to approach and win their hearts, are those in the middle who are on the fence, or more accurately ‘the persuadable voters’,” he said.

Najib added that the votes from this group were significant to BN.

In his speech earlier, Najib said the battle torch had been lit and must not be allowed to fade until BN won big in the polls which would decide the fate of the Malays, Islam and the nation.
