KUALA LUMPUR

THAT there will be no contest for the posts of president and deputy president in Umno exemplifies the party’s stability and unity, said Supreme Council members.

Puteri chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the decision was the best solution for Umno as it headed towards the 14th General Election.

“When the top positions are solid, we can do our jobs on the ground easier. Umno’s machinery will definitely work better following this decision.”

Umno Youth deputy chief Senator Khairul Azwan Harun, who is also Umno Supreme Council member, echoed Mas’ sentiments.

He said the decision came from party delegates, so it represented their support for the party.

Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said the decision was made with Umno’s strengths in mind.

“Umno will benefit greatly from this as it is key to the party’s stability. It has happened in the past, and it is something Umno is used to doing.”

Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the decision was right on the mark in ensuring Umno’s political stability in the general election.

“We will be able to concentrate 100 per cent on the election. What was decided is the best for the party.”

Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan said the decision would ensure that the party remained stable in the long run as the tussle for the top two positions might cause divisions, as history had shown. (From left) Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan, Jefrizal Mohd Jaafar, Natassia Roslan
