‘Royal institution being targeted by opposition’
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno will go all out to defend the country’s royal institution, which it says has become an object of ridicule by the opposition.
Hulu Selangor Umno Youth chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom said the opposition had shifted focus by attacking heads of religion in some states after failing to weaken Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“The DAP is trying to destroy Umno, which plays a role in upholding Islam. We can see that it has been attacking the party president consistently since 2008, but have failed.
“We saw that the president was in high spirits when he delivered his opening speech. Umno’s position and strength is as good as the day it was established.”
Citing the remarks against the sultan of Selangor by DAP’s Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, Zainal said the opposition had demonstrated its intent on removing the royal institution and transforming Malaysia into a republic.
“In Selangor, Zaid told the sultan (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah) to watch his words... he had the audacity to tell the sultan to keep quiet. Why are people like Zaid, who have been ‘programmed’ by DAP, attacking the royal institution?”
Zainal said DAP’s appointment of Wan Ji Wan Hussin, who allegedly insulted the Malaysian constitutional monarchy system, further demonstrated its intention to destroy the royal institution.
“There was a viral video which showed Wan Ji in a movement to bring down the royal institution by 2030, and yet, DAP has appointed him as an information officer in Penang. This shows its seriousness in wanting to remove the royal institutions and to turn Malaysia into a republic.”
Zainal said a programme, known as “Daulat Tuanku”, would be held at Dataran Mayang, PKNS flats Section 16, Shah Alam, at 9.30am today. The gathering is to demonstrate support for the royal institution.
