‘SET UP VARSITY FOR TAHFIZ STUDENTS’
Kelantan prepared to provide land for ‘Universiti Al-Quran’, says delegate
KUALA LUMPUR
KELANTAN Umno has proposed that the government establish a higher learning institution in the state to enable tahfiz students to continue their studies to the tertiary level.
Gua Musang Umno delegate Amran Arifin said Kelantan was prepared to provide land for the establishment of “Universiti AlQuran”.
“We have a target of producing 125,000 tahfiz students and the government has prepared various tahfiz programmes such as the Tahfiz Ulul Albab model, the introduction of an integrated tahfiz curriculum and Tahfiz Dini.
“These students are expected to complete their secondary level by 2020, but we don’t have any higher institutions with syllabus suitable for them.
“Hence, we hope the president will consider creating a path for these students by establishing a ‘Universiti Al-Quran’ to enable them continue their education at the tertiary level.
“We have so much land in Kelantan and we can provide some for the purpose of building the university,” he said when seconding the motion of religion and education presented earlier by the Johor Umno representative.
Amran pledged that Barisan Nasional would develop areas in Tok Bali, Pasir Putih and Tumpat should it be given the mandate by the people.
“We have to be fair to Kelantan and allow Umno to take charge of the state in the 14th General Election.
“I would like to call on the people in the rural and urban areas to give us the opportunity to develop the state.
“We have a plan to develop Tok Bali and Tumpat, but we need a strong government that is in line with the Federal Government’s agenda to ensure the plan goes smoothly.”
Amran emphasised the need to uphold the concept of ta’awun, which is to extend cooperation in anything that would give benefit and avoid involvement in any wrongful acts.
“We have to help our president because he is leading the party that is fighting for us, for the Muslims.
“We can see how our president helped the Rohingya minority. We even influenced the other party (Pas) to give their support.
“Yesterday (on Thursday), our Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin joined the protest to show our disagreement with (Donald) Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital... we have to show our support as it is in the interest of Islam.
“It is lucky that our friends (Pas) realised that and they did not allow DAP to continue to influence them, because they had never supported our agenda for Islam.”
