We leave it to authorities to investigate us, TMI says

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Insight (TMI) is leaving it to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the portal about alleged insults of the government and its leaders.

TMI chief editor Jahabar Sadiq said it was the right of MCMC to do what it saw fit.

“I do not have any further comments on this issue because the Umno delegate who claimed TMI insulted the country’s leaders did not say specifically state what our wrongdoings were. If he had done so, we would be able to comment,” he said yesterday.

Tasek Gelugor Umno chief Mohd Nashrol Hisham Abdullah, during the debate on education and religion, urged authorities to investigate the owner of TMI.

He said the portal insulted the country’s leaders and the government, calling for Faridah Begum — who he claimed was the owner of TMI — to be investigated.

“I managed to do some digging and found out from SSM (Companies Commission of Malaysia) that the owner of the portal is Faridah Begum.

“I call upon the authorities to take serious action against them for going against the leaders of our country.”

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said MCMC had received a report on the matter.

“MCMC will look into the report”

Faridah is sister to Jahabar and wife to attorney-general Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.

Attempts to contact Faridah were unsuccessful.
