KUCHING: All parties need to only focus on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s agreement with chief ministers of Sabah and Sarawak concerning the Federal Government’s readiness to restore the states’ rights under the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

In expressing his gratitude to Najib on the matter, Parti Pesaka Bersatu Bumiputera (PBB) Youth chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said it was important for all parties to remain on course when addressing the issue to move forward.

He said what was discussed between Sarawak’s fifth chief minister, the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, and the federal leadership was being further negotiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg.

“What is enshrined in the agreement and provided for under the Constitution should be restored to Sarawak,” he said after launching the “We Are Smart Consumers” programme at the PBB Service Centre in Samariang yesterday.

Fadillah was commenting on a statement by Najib, who is also Umno president, at the closing of the party’s general assembly on Saturday concerning the government’s preparedness to discuss the restoration of rights accorded to Sabah and Sarawak under MA63.

Kota Kinabalu Umno Youth chief Mohd Bahrin Abd Karim said Najib’s preparedness to restore rights under MA63 was proof that the Federal Government was always willing to listen to the people.

“We welcome the prime minister’s statement on the agreement, as it shows that the leadership is proactive in matters involving the people’s interests.” Bernama
