Luqman’s JDT dream

- Devinder Singh

LUQMAN Hakim Mustaza hopes to make it big in football after finishing as top scorer for Milo Malaysia in winning the Milo Hidup Bola Under-16 Futsal Championship in Pattaya yesterday.

Although he loves playing futsal, football provides a clearer path to a career in sport and Luqman dreams of playing for fourtime Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim.

“I play futsal to help me improve my skill on the ball and also to control the ball better,” said Luqman, originally from Rawang, Selangor but studies at the Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School in Bandar Penawar.

“I will return to playing football because I am a football player. My ambition is to one day play for JDT.”

Luqman scored six goals, including a hat-trick against Nonthaburi, as Milo Malaysia secured a hat-trick of titles in Pattaya.

“I am very happy I got to help the team win the title but to score six goals was unexpected,” said futsal pivot Luqman, 16. “It’s a great feeling to be champions.

“We only had a little amount of time to prepare as a team but I have made great friends here. We get along very well, we train seriously and everybody’s commitment was very high.”

Luqman, who scored once in the opening 4-3 win over Pattaya Thai-Tech FC and twice in a 5-0 rout of Chonburi Bluewave, said his second goal in a 4-2 win over Nonthaburi was his favourite.

“The keeper (Affiq Miswan) threw the ball to me and I met it with a nice first-time volley. That was a great goal,” said Luqman, who turned out for RSJ FC at the Milo Hidup Bola Grand Finals on Nov 26.
