TUN M, ZAID TO BE CALLED IN

-

POLICE are expected to record Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement today for allegedly insulting the Bugis community and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at a rally recently. Also summoned is DAP’s Datuk Zaid Ibrahim over remarks he made against Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

SEBERANG JAYA: Police have summoned DAP’s Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to have his statement recorded over his remarks against Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Zaid’s statement would be recorded today.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948.

“We have called him (Zaid) up to have his statement recorded regarding his social media posting.

“So far, two reports have been lodged against him,” he said after closing the 29th Malaysia Auxiliary Police Conference.

Present were state police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye and outgoing Auxiliary Police Association president Baharuddin Othman.

Zaid recently came under fire when he tweeted: “When some Rulers play politics they must know the consequences. Don’t think there is no price for partisanship”; and “Sultan Selangor should be careful with his words. No one is immune when (a) country burns”.

Zaid included a link to a news article in his tweet, in which the Sultan of Selangor was quoted as saying that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, “will burn the whole country with his anger”.

The sultan had said this in an interview with an English daily when asked about Dr Mahathir’s remarks against the Bugis community, in which Dr Mahathir had allegedly compared them to pirates in his speech at the “Anti-Kleptocracy Rally” on Oct 14.

On the conference, Fuzi said although there were 60,000 vacancies in the auxiliary police, only half had been filled.

“I hope the vacancies can be filled soon because auxiliary police play a vital role in being the eyes and ears of the police,” he said.
